Purpose of the Role
The Data Analyst is responsible for making data accessible, meaningful and actionable. The role identifies patterns and opportunities that can improve business performance and supports stakeholders with evidence-based decision making.
Capitec describes this as more than a traditional reporting position. The analyst works directly with stakeholders, interprets business requirements and develops initial prototypes before solutions move into broader development or implementation.
Minimum Experience
Candidates with an Honours degree in analytics, STEM or a related field need at least five years of relevant experience. Applicants with a relevant Bachelor’s degree need at least eight years of relevant experience. Equivalent experience of around eight years together with relevant certifications can also be considered according to the advert.
Applicants should have proven experience analysing high-volume data and leading analytical projects that produced measurable business value.
Technical Skills
Advanced SQL is essential, including complex queries, performance optimisation and work with large datasets. Candidates also need strong capability in Python or R and data-visualisation tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
Advanced Excel knowledge, including macros and VBA, is relevant. The role also uses statistical methods, predictive analytics, data modelling and risk-analysis techniques. Capitec specifically notes the use of AI tools such as Copilot and Claude within the analytical workflow.
Stakeholder Work
The analyst must communicate findings clearly to non-technical stakeholders and work across functions to translate business needs into analytical solutions. Strong business understanding and communication are therefore as important as technical capability.
