The application deadline was 31 August 2026.
Valterra Platinum is inviting unemployed applicants to join its Engineering Learnership Programme at Amandelbult. The programme is built around structured institutional learning and workplace training, with successful completion leading toward a nationally recognised Artisan Trade Test qualification. This is a strong option for applicants who already have the required school and technical subjects and want to develop a career in a specific engineering trade within the mining industry. The intake covers electrical, mechanical, fitting, diesel, instrumentation, auto electrical, millwright, boilermaking and rigging pathways, so candidates should apply against the trade that matches their N2 or NCV subjects rather than choosing a discipline that does not align with their academic record. There are 19 advertised opportunities across the listed trades. Host-community applicants receive first preference when they meet the requirements, and those candidates need to include acceptable proof of residence with the application documents.
Available Learnerships
- Electrician: 2 opportunities
- Boilermaker: 3 opportunities
- Mechanical Fitter: 4 opportunities
- Diesel Mechanic: 4 opportunities
- Measurement Control & Instrumentation: 1 opportunity
- Auto Electrical: 1 opportunity
- Millwright: 2 opportunities
- Rigger: 2 opportunities
The closing date for the programme is 31 August 2026.
Minimum Entry Requirements
Applicants need Matric with Mathematics, not Mathematical Literacy, Physical Science and English, with at least 40% in each required subject. Candidates also need N2 or higher with four passed subjects, including Mathematics and Engineering Science, together with the discipline-specific trade subjects.
Boilermaker applicants need Plating or Welders Theory and Plating Structural and Steelwork Drawings. Electrical applicants need Electrical Trade Theory plus Industrial Electronics or Engineering Drawings. Diesel Mechanic candidates need Diesel or Motor Trade Theory and Engineering Drawings, while Mechanical Fitter candidates need Fitting Trade Theory and Engineering Drawings.
For instrumentation, the relevant subjects include Instrument Trade Theory and Industrial Electronics. Auto Electrician applicants need Motor Electrical Trade Theory and Industrial Electronics. Millwright applicants need the appropriate electrical and fitting trade theory combination together with Engineering Drawings or Industrial Electronics, while Rigger applicants need Rigger Trade Theory and Engineering Theory. An appropriate NCV Level 4 with all subjects passed at 40% or better is also listed as an entry route.
What the Programme Offers
The learnership combines institutional exposure with workplace training. The purpose is to build practical engineering capability while learners progress toward an artisan qualification. Participants should be ready for a safety-focused operational environment where technical learning, practical discipline and consistent performance matter.
Valterra also highlights learning and development, progression opportunities and a workplace culture built around safe operations. For applicants interested in becoming qualified artisans, the value of the programme is the combination of formal structured learning and exposure to real engineering work.
Documents to Prepare
Applications need a CV, certified copies of relevant qualifications and a copy of the applicant’s South African ID. Host-community candidates must also provide proof of residence bearing the required stamp from the relevant tribal office or municipality. All required documents must be uploaded with the application. Incomplete submissions can be declined during screening.
