What the Engineer Will Build
The engineer translates business and technical requirements into back-end solutions that balance performance, security, resilience and cost. Responsibilities include developing and optimising APIs, reusable libraries and database components that support real application functionality.
The position also involves writing business logic and algorithms that process data accurately and efficiently. Because these systems operate inside a large banking environment, the engineer needs to think about scalability, reliability and secure delivery rather than focusing only on whether a feature works locally.
Quality and DevSecOps
Automated testing, continuous integration and continuous delivery form part of the role. The engineer is expected to follow secure coding principles and contribute to DevSecOps practices. Debugging can involve issues at different severity levels, and standby support may be required when operational problems need urgent attention.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates need at least three years of proven experience in back-end software development, project delivery and implementation using relevant technologies. Grade 12 is required together with a relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology.
Strong experience with production-grade back-end systems is expected. Technical requirements include C# and .NET Core, working knowledge of AWS and Azure cloud platforms and PostgreSQL skills, including efficient query writing and data-model optimisation. Applicants should also understand API design, reusable components, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and secure coding.
Working in the Team
The Collections and Recoveries technology team works at significant scale, so collaboration is important. Engineers need to communicate clearly when debugging complex issues, share technical knowledge and contribute to a common codebase rather than working in isolation.
Development and Benefits
Capitec states that it invests in employee growth and continuous learning. The vacancy also highlights access to modern AWS and Azure cloud infrastructure, opportunities for internal progression and an environment built around collaboration and technical ownership.
How to Apply
The recruitment process includes a short assessment followed by completion of the online Capitec application. Applicants should make their back-end development experience, C#/.NET Core skills, cloud exposure and PostgreSQL work easy to identify in the CV.
