Description
Standard Bank currently has three early-career routes that suit graduates who want structured workplace exposure rather than a general entry-level role. Two are 24-month learnerships in Internal Auditing and Data Science, while the People & Culture internship gives HR and social-science graduates broader exposure to how a large organisation manages and develops its workforce.
The programmes lead into different areas of work, so the best option depends on your qualification. Applicants with auditing, finance, risk, technology or related degrees can compare the Internal Auditing route; quantitative and data-focused graduates should look closely at Data Science; and candidates from Human Resources, Organisational Psychology or related fields may be a better fit for People & Culture.
Available Positions
1. Internal Auditing Learnership
This learnership develops practical audit capability while learners work towards an Occupational Certificate: Internal Auditor. The work can include understanding business processes, examining evidence, documenting findings, supporting audit activities and learning how risk, controls and governance operate inside a major bank.
The programme runs for 24 months, starts on 1 October 2026 and pays a learner stipend of R15,000 per month plus student medical aid.
2. Data Science Learnership
The Data Science route is aimed at graduates who want to work with data, analysis and evidence-based decision making. Learners can gain experience organising datasets, analysing information, developing simple recommendations and maintaining code or analytical outputs in a structured way.
This is also a 24-month programme starting on 1 October 2026. Standard Bank states a stipend of R15,000 per month plus student medical aid, with an Occupational Certificate: Data Science Practitioner as the qualification outcome.
3. People & Culture Internship
The People & Culture internship is an 18-month programme for graduates interested in HR and the employee side of a large organisation. It combines on-the-job learning, self-directed learning and technical training, with exposure to People & Culture as both a generalist function and a specialist area.

Data Science: Suitable undergraduate fields include IT or Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Econometrics, Quantitative Analysis, Engineering or related disciplines.
People & Culture: Relevant qualifications include Organisational Psychology, Industrial Psychology, Human Resources, or a postgraduate diploma in Business Administration supported by an undergraduate qualification in one of the stated areas.
Skills That Could Help You
The audit and data programmes both value analytical thinking, problem solving, attention to detail and the ability to work with other teams. For People & Culture, strong communication, discretion and an interest in how people work inside organisations matter more. Across all three routes, applicants should be ready to learn, organise their workload and take responsibility for the quality of their work.
Which Programme Should You Apply For?
Choose based on the work you want to build towards, not simply the stipend or programme length. Internal Auditing is a stronger match if you enjoy reviewing evidence, controls and business processes. Data Science fits graduates who are comfortable with quantitative work and data. People & Culture makes more sense if your interest is HR, organisational behaviour, employee development or workforce programmes.
