The Road Accident Fund has four current graduate internship positions in Durban across Facilities Management and Medical Management. The programme runs for 18 months and is aimed at unemployed graduates aged 18 to 25 who have not previously worked or completed an internship in the relevant field. One position is available in Facilities Management and three in Medical Management. The intern can work across inventory, asset and fleet administration, space and parking management, facilities support, contract administration, accounts payments on SAP and property insurance claims. Medical Management Internships
The three Medical Management positions are aimed at graduates from Health Sciences or another medical-related field. The work connects with the medical side of RAF claims and gives interns exposure to injury-assessment administration, undertakings, caregiver management and review of medical invoices. It also introduces the use of medical tariffs, clinical codes and treatment protocols within managed-healthcare and claims processes.

A certified registration certificate with the HPCSA, SANC, SAPC or another relevant regulatory body is required. Knowledge of clinical coding, claims or managed healthcare is an advantage.
Eligibility Rules
The RAF internships are restricted to unemployed graduates between 18 and 25. Applicants must not have prior work experience in the relevant field and must not previously have served as an intern in that field. RAF also restricts applicants to a maximum of three positions. The current adverts state that only the first 100 applications for each vacancy will be considered.
Documents Required
- Certified Grade 12 / NQF 4 certificate
- Certified relevant tertiary qualification
- Certified South African ID
- Certified academic transcript
- Short CV and motivational letter
- Professional registration certificate for Medical Management applicants
Selection and Security
Prospective interns are subject to security vetting. Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority, with proof of the evaluation supplied where applicable. The advertised competencies include written and verbal communication, interpersonal ability, attention to detail, basic computer skills, self-motivation and the ability to prioritise work.
Application Limits and First-100 Rule
RAF places specific limits on this internship recruitment. Applicants may apply for a maximum of three RAF positions, and only the first 100 applications for each of these vacancies will be considered. An academic transcript is compulsory, and the CV plus motivational letter must stay within the page limit stated in the advert. These conditions form part of the vacancy requirements rather than optional guidance.
Medical Management Exposure in Claims
The Medical Management stream is closely connected with the way medical information and costs are handled during claims administration. Interns may work with supplier claims, past medical expenses and future medical expenses while learning how tariffs, clinical codes and treatment protocols are applied during bill review. The exception-handling component also introduces a controlled process for cases that fall outside standard rules or require further review.
External engagement can include roadshows and consultation with families of claimants, service providers and direct claimants. This means the placement combines desk-based claims administration with stakeholder interaction, while still requiring accurate filing and data capture to support the claims record.
