Senior Medical Scientist – Molecular
The Senior Medical Scientist position is based at the Unitas laboratory in Centurion and is focused on molecular laboratory work. PathCare lists a minimum BSc Master’s qualification in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Genetics or a related scientific field. Current HPCSA registration is also part of the competency requirements.
The role carries senior laboratory responsibilities and includes working collaboratively with Pathologists and the Laboratory Manager. The vacancy also refers to standing in for management duties when the manager is on leave. This makes it suitable for a molecular scientist who has progressed beyond an entry-level laboratory role and can combine scientific work with senior operational responsibility.
Laboratory Assistant – Constantiaberg
The Constantiaberg Laboratory Assistant vacancy has a different entry profile from the scientist and technologist roles. Applicants need Grade 12 and must be registered with the HPCSA as a qualified Laboratory Assistant. Computer literacy and relevant experience in a busy specimen-reception department are included in the competency requirements.
- Receive and process specimens.
- Distribute specimens while maintaining acceptable turnaround times.
- Prepare specimens for laboratory processing.
- Handle relevant queries.
- Work accurately within a busy specimen-reception environment.
This position is relevant to an experienced laboratory assistant whose work already includes specimen flow and reception processes. The role requires careful handling of samples and records because specimen identification, preparation and distribution affect the laboratory’s ability to deliver reliable results within required turnaround times.
Medical Technician or Technologist – Unitas
PathCare’s Unitas laboratory in Centurion is also recruiting a Medical Technician/Technologist. The qualification options listed include a three-year Biomedical Technology Diploma or a Medical Technician Certificate in Clinical Pathology. Current HPCSA registration in Clinical Pathology is required.
The vacancy is intended for a qualified pathology professional rather than an unregistered laboratory trainee. The Clinical Pathology requirement links the role to diagnostic laboratory work where professional registration, technical competence, quality procedures and accurate processing of patient specimens are central to the job.
Rosepark Medical Technician, Technologist or Laboratory Scientist
The Rosepark vacancy in Bloemfontein can accommodate more than one professional laboratory qualification. The current listing includes a three-year Biomedical Technology Diploma or a four-year Medical Laboratory Scientist qualification among the education routes. Professional registration requirements apply to the position.
This role gives qualified laboratory professionals an opportunity to work in PathCare’s Rosepark branch. Applicants should use the professional category that matches their completed qualification and current registration when submitting the application rather than treating Technician, Technologist and Laboratory Scientist as interchangeable titles.
Experienced Medical Technologist or Laboratory Scientist – Constantiaberg
The experienced Constantiaberg position is aimed at candidates with a three-year Biomedical Technology Diploma or a four-year Medical Laboratory Scientist Degree in Clinical Pathology. Current HPCSA registration in Clinical Pathology is required. Because the vacancy is specifically advertised for an experienced professional, applicants should have the practical laboratory background stated on the official vacancy page in addition to the academic and registration requirements.
Professional Registration and Laboratory Standards
Several of the current vacancies are regulated professional laboratory roles, which is why HPCSA registration appears prominently in the requirements. PathCare states that its laboratories are SANAS accredited and that the organisation is registered with the HPCSA. These standards are important in diagnostic pathology because laboratory processes, quality systems and professional practice directly support patient care and reliable test results.
Benefits Listed by PathCare
Current PathCare vacancy pages list employee benefits that can include Group Life and Disability cover, an annual bonus, competitive maternity benefits, a health-care allowance, discounted pathology tests, payment of HPCSA or SANC annual registration fees and development opportunities through the PathCare Training Academy. Benefits can depend on the position and employment conditions, so applicants should use the package stated for the role they select.
About PathCare
PathCare describes itself as a people-focused, technology-driven pathology practice offering a broad range of screening and diagnostic tests. The current vacancies span both highly specialised scientific work and the operational laboratory functions that support specimen reception, testing and patient results.
