The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is the primary oversight body for the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the Municipal Police Services. 🚀 The Mission: Digital Transformation & Oversight

The Assistant Director: ICT Project Management is responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of the Directorate’s technology projects. This role ensures that ICT solutions whether they are custom-built or Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) products are delivered on time, within budget, and in full compliance with government Enterprise Architecture standards.


🛠️ The Day-to-Day: Key Duties

  • Strategic Project Planning: Defining project scopes and objectives while developing comprehensive plans that align with the Directorate’s annual performance goals.
  • Financial & Scope Stewardship: Managing changes to project costs, schedules, and scope to ensure maximum ROI for the public funds allocated to ICT.
  • SDLC Governance: Overseeing the System Development Lifecycle (SDLC) for both Open-Source Software (OSS) and proprietary systems.
  • Performance Tracking: Using advanced project management tools to measure performance and ensure that all deliverables meet quality standards.
  • Risk & Stakeholder Management: Identifying project risks early to implement mitigation strategies and managing complex Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with third-party vendors.

To be considered for this Level 09 position, applicants must meet the following strict criteria:

Academic & Professional Requirements:

  • Qualification: An Undergraduate Degree or Higher National Diploma (NQF Level 7) in Business Administration or Information Technology.
  • Certification: A valid Project Management Certificate (Prince 2) is mandatory.
  • Experience: 2–3 years of experience as a business/system analyst or in a related ICT project field.
  • Licensing: A valid driver’s license.

Technical Knowledge Base:
Candidates must demonstrate an in-depth understanding of:

  • Enterprise Architecture & Business Analysis.
  • COTS (Commercial Off-the-Shelf) and Open-Source Software (OSS).
  • ICT Governance frameworks within the South African Public Service.
