The application deadline was 25 August 2026.
EWSETA, the University of Limpopo and the Department of Water and Sanitation are inviting qualifying unemployed graduates to apply for a targeted Graduate Internship Programme in the water and sanitation field. The programme is specifically intended for University of Limpopo graduates who completed the four-year Bachelor of Science in Water and Sanitation Sciences. It is not a general science internship, so applicants from other institutions or unrelated qualifications should not assume that they meet the eligibility criteria. The programme is designed to help graduates move from academic learning into supervised workplace-based learning and build professional competence within a sector directly connected to water resources and sanitation services.
Who Can Apply
Applicants must be graduates of the University of Limpopo and must hold the required four-year BSc in Water and Sanitation Sciences. Candidates must be 35 years old or younger and unemployed at the time of application.
The programme also states that applicants should not previously have participated in an internship programme and must not currently hold an EWSETA-funded grant. Candidates should be available to participate in structured workplace-based learning and work under supervision and mentorship.
Programme Focus
The internship is intended to develop occupational competence, professional readiness and workplace experience. Water and sanitation graduates can use this opportunity to apply scientific knowledge in a practical environment and become more familiar with professional procedures, supervised learning and sector expectations.
The programme information does not provide a detailed day-to-day duty list. Applicants should therefore avoid assuming they will automatically be assigned to a specific laboratory, engineering, municipal or fieldwork function. The confirmed focus is structured workplace-based learning related to the qualification and water and sanitation sector.
Why This Programme Is Relevant
Water and sanitation work intersects with public infrastructure, environmental management, public health, monitoring and resource planning. For a recent graduate, gaining formal workplace exposure can make it easier to demonstrate practical competence in future applications for government, municipal, scientific or environmental positions.
Documents Required
Applicants are instructed to submit a current CV and copies of relevant academic qualifications. The CV should make the University of Limpopo qualification easy to identify and should include accurate contact details.
