Discovery Health is offering a Long-Term Insurance learnership in Cape Town specifically for young applicants living with a disability. The programme combines structured learning with workplace experience and leads toward a nationally recognised FETC: Long Term Insurance qualification at NQF Level 4. Learners can gain practical exposure in a customer-service environment connected to medical-aid administration, claims, new business and health benefits. This opportunity is aimed at candidates who have completed Grade 12, are not currently working or studying after Matric and have not previously completed a learnership. It is a structured development route for applicants who want to enter the financial-services environment while obtaining a recognised qualification and learning how customer queries and health-administration processes are handled in a professional contact-centre setting.
Position Overview
- Programme: PWD Learnership – Long Term Insurance
- Business unit: Discovery Health
- Location: Sable Park, Cape Town
- Qualification outcome: FETC Long Term Insurance NQF Level 4
- Target group: People living with disabilities
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 is essential. The academic requirements include Mathematics at a minimum of Level 4, or Mathematical Literacy at a minimum of Level 5, English at Level 4 and a second language at Level 4. An incomplete tertiary qualification can be an advantage but is not listed as an essential requirement.

Workplace Exposure
The workplace component is linked to Discovery Health’s call-centre and contact-centre operations. Areas may include medical-aid client servicing, claims, new-business processes and health-benefit administration. Learners should therefore expect regular communication with customers and internal teams while following established processes and service standards.
Skills Needed
Discovery is looking for people who can think critically, solve problems and maintain strong attention to detail. Accuracy matters because the work can involve customer information and benefit-related processes. Time management and planning are also important, particularly when several tasks or customer queries need to be managed in a busy environment.
Candidates should be able to work independently while also contributing to a team. A service-driven attitude, willingness to learn and ability to adapt to changing circumstances will help learners make the most of the programme. Basic computer skills are required, particularly Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
What You Will Gain
The programme combines workplace experience in financial services with structured learning toward an NQF Level 4 insurance qualification. This gives successful learners both formal learning and practical evidence of working in customer service and health-administration processes.
How to Apply
Applications are completed through Discovery’s official careers system. Make sure your application accurately reflects your Grade 12 results and eligibility for the disability-focused programme.
