About the South African Reserve Bank

As a Grow-IT intern, you will be working within the technology department that supports all of these functions making your role directly relevant to the functioning of the entire South African economy.
Programme Format & Responsibilities
- Duration: 1-Year Fixed-Term Contract (with an option to extend based on performance and organisational needs)
- Format: Full-Time, On-Site, Day Shift
- Placement: Within the SARB’s IT environment (BSTD)
During the programme, you will:
- Be placed within the SARB’s IT environment and assigned to relevant technology projects and teams within BSTD.
- Develop the required technical competencies in your area of specialisation with this intake focused specifically on Artificial Intelligence.
- Build behavioural competencies that prepare you for a professional career in a high-stakes, regulated environment.
- Contribute to AI and data engineering projects that support the SARB’s departmental strategy and operations.
- Work with cloud platforms, data pipelines, machine learning models, or AI tools as directed by your supervisor.
- Participate in capacity building and succession planning initiatives within the department.
- Complete all programme requirements, learning objectives, and performance assessments during the 12-month contract.
- Collaborate with experienced SARB technology professionals and learn from their expertise in central banking technology.
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for this internship, you must meet all of the following:
- ✅ Must be a South African citizen.
- ✅ Must be between 18 and 35 years of age.
- ✅ Must hold one of the following qualifications:
- National Diploma in IT (NQF Level 6)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or IT with exposure to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Engineering
- BTech Degree in Computer Science Engineering, AI and Machine Learning, or Data Science (NQF Level 7)
- ✅ Must be curious, self-motivated, and innovative in your approach to technology and problem-solving.
Education & Experience
- Education: A minimum of a National Diploma in IT at NQF Level 6 is required. Candidates with a Bachelor’s or BTech degree in a relevant field are strongly encouraged to apply, especially those with demonstrated exposure to AI, machine learning, or data engineering through their studies or projects.
