Claims Department Learnership
The Claims learnership introduces participants to the administrative processes used to receive, organise and prepare claim information. Learners work with files and documents and support the movement of information through the department. This gives them a practical understanding of why accurate records, document checks and organised filing matter in a claims environment.
- Receive and record claim files or related documentation.
- Assist with pre-assessment processes.
- Scan, index and upload documents.
- Prepare files for storage and retrieval.
- Support registration processes.
- Check documentation for compliance and assist with letters where required.
The work is suitable for a school leaver who is comfortable with administrative tasks and careful handling of records. Attention to detail is important because a missing or incorrectly indexed document can delay the next step in a claims process. Basic computer use also matters because learners may work with scanned documents and internal systems.
Technology & Digital Learnership
The East London Technology & Digital learnership provides entry-level exposure to ICT support. Learners assist with common technical issues affecting hardware, operating systems, software, user profiles and connectivity. They can also help users with applications and support the management of devices and ICT equipment.
- Assist with troubleshooting hardware, software and operating-system issues.
- Support user-profile and connectivity problems.
- Help users with applications and everyday technical queries.
- Assist with device compliance, including Intune-related activity where applicable.
- Support patches and updates.
- Help record and manage incidents.
- Assist with ICT equipment and user support.
Eligibility Criteria
- Grade 12 only as the stated entry qualification for the learnership.
- Applicants must be unemployed.
- Applicants must be between 18 and 23 years old.
- Candidates need to meet the requirements listed for the selected location and department.
Skills the RAF Looks For
The learnership listings refer to communication, interpersonal ability, attention to detail, willingness to learn, self-motivation, basic computer skills and the ability to prioritise work. These are relevant to both streams even though the daily tasks differ. Claims requires accuracy with documentation, while Technology & Digital requires patience and structured problem solving when assisting users.
Documents Required
- Certified Matric certificate.
- Certified copy of South African ID.
- CV.
- Motivational letter.
The RAF also states that employment history can be verified during the selection process. Applicants should therefore provide accurate information about their employment status and background.
Workplace Learning in Two Different Departments
The two RAF streams provide very different kinds of entry-level experience. A Claims learner develops administrative discipline by handling documents that need to move through a defined process, while the Technology & Digital learner develops technical-support habits by working through user problems in a structured way. Both require accurate records because the next employee handling a file or technical incident depends on the information already captured.
Claims experience can build familiarity with document control, scanning, indexing and compliance checks. Technology & Digital exposure can introduce a learner to troubleshooting steps, device management and the importance of updates and user support. These are practical workplace skills that can help a school leaver understand how a large public organisation manages information and internal services.
Selection and Programme Expectations
Because the learnership targets unemployed youth, applicants should make sure they meet the age and education rules before applying. The programme requires learners to follow departmental procedures, communicate professionally and complete assigned work throughout the 12-month period. The RAF may verify employment history during selection, so the information provided in the application should accurately reflect the applicant’s current status and previous work background.
