📋 Description
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is offering exciting opportunities for young South Africans to gain real work experience through two programmes:
- Graduate Internship Programme – lasts 24 months (2 years)
- TVET Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Programme – lasts 18 months (1.5 years)
These programmes are based in KwaZulu-Natal and are designed to help graduates and TVET college students get practical, on-the-job training in a government environment. If you are sitting at home with a qualification and no work experience, this is your chance to build your CV and kick-start your career.
🛠️ Responsibilities
As an intern or WIL learner at SASSA, your day-to-day duties will depend on your field of study, but generally you will be expected to:
- Assist your department with daily tasks and projects
- Attend meetings, take notes, and support senior staff
- Handle documents, reports, and administrative work
- Learn how government systems and processes work
- Participate in training sessions and skills development activities
- Complete all tasks given by your supervisor on time
- Behave professionally and follow SASSA’s workplace rules

🎓 Education
- Graduate Internship: You must have a Diploma, Degree, or equivalent qualification from a recognised South African university or university of technology in one of the fields listed above.
- TVET WIL Programme: You must be a current student at a TVET College studying towards a National Certificate (Vocational) or N6 Certificate in a relevant field, and you need a letter from your college confirming you require WIL placement to complete your qualification.
⚠️ Important: You must not have participated in an internship or WIL programme before. These opportunities are for first-timers.
💼 Experience
- No prior work experience is required — that is what this programme is for!
- However, any voluntary work, community service, or part-time experience related to your field will be an advantage.
🌟 Skills

- Good communication in English (written and spoken)
- Basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Email)
